Mozambique continues to face significant challenges with over 1 million children unable to access education and almost half of the population unable to read.

Education is a significant predictor of future employment, welfare and health prospects. It improves a person’s ability to contribute socially and economically in the community. If we have young people who are well-educated and going on to employment, we’ll all prosper. We believe that it is an excellent investment. Education has been proven as an effective strategy in seeing transformation come to the developing nations.

Supporting Australian registered charitiesMission Educate, an Australian registered charity, is working to bring education to Beira Mozambique and connect with students here in Australia through their Side by Side project.

King of Kings School, Mozambique

School building in MozambiqueThe King of Kings School (Escola Rei Dos Reis) was established in Manga, a community on Beira’s outskirts, Mozambique’s second-largest city. A preschool class commenced in 2001, and the primary school began in 2003.

Secondary courses started in 2008 with the first Year 12 students graduating in 2013. Generous donations from international and Australian supporters have enabled the construction of permanent buildings.

The school has a total enrolment of 2000 students from Prep-Year 12. A modest tuition fee is charged to encourage school families to develop both a sense of ownership in the school and responsibility for their students’ education.

Special financial consideration is given to orphans and those in financial need. School fees contribute to approximately 90% of the daily operational costs. Donations from global supporters assist in the provision of student scholarships, educational resources and facility development.

They appreciate people and organisations’ generosity

For several years Mission Educate has sent a shipping container to Mozambique with goods donated for use in their school and Technical Institute. The containers shipped to Mozambique are received by their Mozambican staff who arrange for the appropriate distribution of donated goods. Their team ensure that all donated goods are allocated according to the purposes for which they have been granted.

They appreciate people and organisations’ generosity in providing useful quality resources that they are unable to obtain in Mozambique.

How you can help

There are many opportunities available on the Mission Educate website to support students, teachers and projects. They are so grateful to learn that there are people in other countries interested in their welfare.

The purchase and shipping costs of a container are around $10,000.
