Gift Acceptance Policy

One Light Charity Foundation Limited “OLC” raises funds to support Australian registered charities that empower people and communities in times of vulnerability. Our donors can nominate the cause where they want to make a difference. Our purpose is to reduce suffering across Australia by supporting the following six causes: Homelessness, domestic violence, disaster relief, medical care, extreme poverty and education. For details of grants made by OLC see this link to the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profits Commission “ACNC” https://www.acnc.gov.au/charity/charities/6cc54938-3aaf-e811-a961-000d3ad24182/profile

OLC is duty-bound to act with responsibility and transparency when accepting gifts and making grants. This policy governs the acceptance of gifts by OLC and provides guidance to prospective donors and their advisors when making gifts to OLC.

  • OLC’s MISSION

One Light Charity Foundation is solely dedicated to reducing human suffering and is non-political and non-sectarian in its mission, which is: To create a sustainable funding platform assisting Charities with funding so they can focus on their causes. Proudly Australian, we believe “Charity starts at home.” Identifying suffering in each local Community and partnering with Charities to help their Causes.

  • SOLICITING GIFTS

Members of the board, volunteers, and staff of OLC may solicit gifts from individuals, corporations, foundations, and other private funding sources to secure the sustainability, future growth, and mission of OLC.

  • GIFT ACCEPTANCE

Acceptance decisions for gifts under the value of $100,000 will be made by OLC’s Administration. An OLC board member must approve gifts over $100,000. Together, the administration and board members are responsible for reviewing all gifts and proposed gifts over $100,000 made to OLC, properly screening and accepting those gifts, and making decisions concerning acceptance. Gifts will be considered according to their intended use, restrictions, liabilities and financial impact on OLC now and in the future. Only gifts, bequests, devices, endowments, trusts, and similar funds that are designated for use by OLC consistent with its stated goals and mission will be considered for acceptance.

  • CONFLICT OF INTEREST

OLC board members, volunteers, and employees will scrupulously avoid the appearance of or actual conflict of interest between prospective donors or donors and OLC board members, volunteers and employees. Identified conflict of interest must be disclosed in the annual report to the ACNC

  • DUE DILIGENCE AND SOURCE OF FUNDS

OLC will refuse a donation where there is reason to believe the money results from illegal activities or where the activities of the donor are contrary to the mission, values and/or objectives of OLC or where a gift could cause reputational damage. OLC will be transparent about gifts accepted in terms of their sources and purposes. Gifts will not be accepted where the source of the funds in question is unknown.

  • RESTRICTED GIFTS

OLC will accept unrestricted gifts, and gifts nominated for specific causes and campaigns, provided that such gifts are not inconsistent with its stated mission, purposes, and priorities. OLC will not accept gifts that are excessively restrictive in purpose. For all major restricted gifts that no longer fit the purpose, strategic objectives or mission, OLC will be permitted to use the resources in a manner consistent with the objectives and mission of OLC and in a manner most closely matching the original donor intent. If the intended goal of a restricted gift no longer exists, and if no authority was given by the donor to use the gift for an unrestricted purpose, OLC shall follow all applicable statutes to release the restrictions in the most transparent fashion possible. A portion of unrestricted gifts may be directed toward funding operating expenses.
