Our goal is for all young people to have a home where they feel safe and to reduce the cycle of Homelessness.

Many young homeless people have fled from  dysfunctional and abusive environments to find themselves in a far worse street predicament. Many of these young people have been abused by those closest to them, including physical, emotional and sexual abuse. Unfortunately, there is a severe shortage of beds and quality housing for homeless youth on the Gold Coast.

Projects that we support

IMMEDIATE CRISIS HOUSING

1. Gold Coast Project for Homeless Youth Inc. supports young people through each stage of the process so that they can move from street to home.

Lawson House

 The house offers 7-bed facility housing 16-18-year-olds.

This is where young people usually begin their journey.
Housing is assessed on a priority basis on the day of referral. One Light Charity Foundation provided the fit-out such as curtains, carpet, furniture etc.

PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE

2. Kids Under Cover has worked for 30 years to prevent youth homelessness. 

They support vulnerable and disadvantaged young people between the ages of 12 and 25 who are either experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness.

At the heart of their work is the Studio Program. One or two-bedroom studios – with bathrooms are built in the backyards of a family or carer’s home. This provides secure and stable accommodation for young people at risk of homelessness. 

They are the only not-for-profit organisation in Australia delivering the unique combination of studio accommodation and education scholarships as a practical and proven strategy in preventing youth homelessness.
